Never Too Old To Play
|Thursday, 06 August 2020|
I usually tell people that I own a kids toy store. Often, we think that toys are for kids or for specific ages as stated on the box (we will talk about that later on in another blog). The reality is, Toys are for all ages and we should continue to play, even as we grow older.
Why do we put an age limit on creativity, fun and imagination? For kids, play is how they learn and develop. They discover the world through play. They experiment with new ideas and test their imaginations. For adults, play can be a form of therapy. It makes us feel alive and continues to help us discover life, even in the later stages. Just because we are adults, doesn't mean that their isn't room for our brain to grow. It can even slow down the effects of aging in the brain.
What does it mean to play? According to Oxford Dictionary play is to "engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose." Playing expands our minds and makes us more creative. It is the main reason why many companies across the world are beginning to build time in their daily schedules for fun activities. These companies have shown that employees are being more productive and they are happier....So why not do that in our personal lives?
Don't know where to start? Take the cue from the kids in your life. Play with them and play by their silly rules.
Don't have kids in your life? Try something simple like playing a sport, dancing, or climbing a tree. There are also some great items out there for adults.
Just get out there and do it. Playing for just a few minutes a day will make your day brighter and even help you with daily life struggles.
